Mr.George Mathew has more than two decades of expertise in providing Clean Energy Solutions. After completing his Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bangalore, he founded Solar Tech Enterprises in 1994 and now serves as Chief Executive Officer of TeamSustain. The company’s initial focus was on providing Off-Grid Solutions to the hospitality sector. In 2007, the Company entered the Telecom sector to cater to the huge demand for energy-efficient solutions by Telecom operators and in 2012 partnered with Quanta TowerGen, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Houston-based Quanta Services, to offer OPEX solutions in both Telecom and Off-Grid Rooftop categories. “Our expertise and experience in providing off-grid solutions to companies in the hospitality industry helped us to cater to the Telecom sector,” says Mr.George Mathew. So far, the Company has provided Solar Energy Solutions for 500 towers across India. It has also partnered with companies such as Trojan Battery, SMA and Outback Power.
Mr.George Mathew believes that one of the major likely trends in energy management in the Telecom sector is that operators will shift to the OPEX and fixed cost models going forward. Among the solutions, energy storage is witnessing the biggest traction. He adds that some of the earlier experiences of Telecom operators with renewable energy solutions were mixed, which deterred higher adoption. However, in the future, Mr.Mathew reckons that these solutions will see significant uptake by operators, especially given the fact that the government has directed them to reduce their carbon footprint.
Mr.Mathew has set several targets for himself and his Company. “We intend to adopt new, commercially viable technologies and solutions. We want to ensure that the technology we are offering is advanced and reliable and, at the same time, commercially viable. We do not want any capital subsidy from the government and provide standard stand-alone solutions,” he says.
However, Mr.Mathew is committed to his task and ensures consistency in his work. Describing his management style, he says he likes to give maximum freedom to his employees to carry out their tasks and believes that they are able to hold themselves.
